INTERSTELLAR FUGITIVES
Fed up with the mainstream music industry, a group of innovative, but angry artists escaped. Leaving the mainstream world for parts unknown, they became known as the Interstellar Fugitives. Their first CD was a highly percussive audio soundtrack to genetic and memetic theories, designed for anyone who wanted to dance while in school. Their second CD,
"The Destruction of Order" took on the concepts oforder and chaos, not just in words, but musically, setting electro next to ambient, and rock next to trip hop. They then decided to take it on the road, incorporating not only music from the first two CDs, but digging into the UR catalog for some appropriate classics. "
Mad" Mike Banks leads the team along with veteran
Ray 7 (the Unknown Soldier) and Milton
"DJ Skurge" Baldwin. Designer and artist
Frankie Fultz interprets the music on screen while UR spokesperson
Atlantis handles the microphone as MC. Taking techno and blending elements of funk, hip hop, and soul, the Fugitives forged a sound that didn't belong in any one category. A techno band with an MC. A visual presentation set to music. A group that seeks to put music above genre and most of all, make you dance!
THE ASSAULT
Since 1991, UR's many live appearances (called assaults) worldwide have
cemented the labels place in history. They were the first Detroit based
act to actually play techno live and the first group to use a DJ as an
actual bandmember! The shows are an exciting blend of man and machine.
The bands skill, musicianship, disciplined manners and intelligent
interviews have made them and the label some of the most respected
ambassadors of "Detroit Techno" all over the world.
Underground Resistance is probably the most militantly political
outcropping of modern urban American techno. Combining a militant,
four-track aesthetic, an almost strictly DIY business philosophy, and
an oppositional, militaristic ethos similar to
Public Enemy without the drama (or the familiarity; the members refuse to be photographed without bandanas obscuring their identities),
UR
have redirected their portion of the Detroit techno legacy to social
activist ends, trading mainstream popularity and financial success for
independence and self-determination. Begun in the early '90s by
second-wave trinity
Jeff Mills, "
Mad" Mike Banks, and
Robert "Noise" Hood, UR adapted the flavor and kick of early
Detroit techno
to the complex social, political, and economic circumstances in the
wake of Reagan-era accelerated inner-city decline, and was formed as an
outlet for uncompromising music geared toward awareness and change.
UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE
Underground Resistance is a label for a movement. A movement that wants change by sonic revolution. We urge you to join the resistance and help us combat the mediocre audio and visual programming that is being fed to the inhabitants of Earth, this programming is stagnating the minds of the people; building a wall between races and preventing world peace. It is this wall we are going to smash. By using the untapped energy potential of sound we are going to destroy this wall much the same as certain frequencies shatter glass. Techno is a music based in experimentation; it is music for the future of the human race. Without this music there will be no peace, no love, no vision. By simply communicating through sound, techno has brought people of all different nationalities together under one roof to enjoy themselves. Isn't it obvious that music and dance are the keys to the universe? So called primitive animals and tribal humans have known this for thousands of years! We urge all brothers and sisters of the underground to create and transmit their tones and frequencies no matter how so called primitive their equipment may be. Transmit these tones and wreak havoc on the programmers!
Long live the underground...
